Garage Cleanouts in Mt. Juliet, TN

A garage cleanout in Mt. Juliet is a sort before it is a haul: Wilson County's convenience centers cap each visit at ten bags of household garbage and one other item group, the County landfill charges for building scraps on weekdays, and paint, fuel, batteries and tires each have their own lawful route. The centers are staffed County drop-off sites, seven in all, for residents only; the landfill sits on Dump Road in Lebanon. Below are those rules in the County's words, what a garage load holds, what the donation outlets accept and the national prices with dates. Photos of the garage get you a quote, the items we leave behind are listed before the job, and we haul the rest.

Published price

$200 to $700 for a garage clean-out, national (Angi, updated Aug 31, 2026) · full pricing guide

Angi's garage clean-out page, updated Aug 31, 2026, puts the national average at $450 and the usual range at $200 to $700, depending on garage size. HomeGuide's garage cleaning page, dated July 8, 2025, prints $150 to $1,000 nationally, from $150 to $500 for a single-car garage to $350 to $1,000 for three cars. Neither survey, nor any other, gives a garage figure for Mt. Juliet, Wilson County or Tennessee, and Angi's page names no Tennessee city. The one local number is a public fee. Wilson County's landfill rate of "Construction/Demo Waste: $18 per cubic yard", in force since November 1, 2022, puts the 77.4 cubic feet of a level 2026 Ford F-150 8-ft. box at $51.60 by our arithmetic, at 27 cubic feet to the yard. The rest of the survey figures sit in our full table of survey prices.

Garage loads are counted by volume first. Angi's garage page prices "Up to 3.5 cubic yards of junk" at $150 to $400 and "5 to 10 cubic yards of junk" at $300 to $800 nationally. NIST's Handbook 44 makes a cubic yard 27 cubic feet, so Ford's printed 77.4 cubic feet for the 2026 F-150's 8-ft. box works out, by our arithmetic, to about 2.87 cubic yards when filled level. One national hauler's size chart rates a 10-yard container at 4 standard pickup truck loads, or 2.5 cubic yards per pickup load by our arithmetic, though the haulers' charts differ. Weight comes next: EPA's "Volume-to-Weight Conversion Factors" table lists uncompacted mixed trash at 250 to 300 pounds per cubic yard, so a 2.5 cubic yard pickup load of such trash comes to 625 to 750 pounds, again our arithmetic.

Wilson County's two solid waste pages split a garage into piles. The convenience centers allow "10 Bags of Household Garbage" "And One of the Following:", a list that includes "2 Boxes of Miscellaneous Items in Open Top Dumpster", "5 Pieces of Lumber (flooring included)" and "5 Pieces of Metal/Tin". They take cardboard, metal and batteries for recycling and refuse "Tires/Automotive parts", "Paint" and "Hazardous waste". The landfill charges "Construction/Demo Waste: $18 per cubic yard" and "Shingles: $100 per ton", effective November 1, 2022, takes "Cash or local check only", and wants weekday loads at its scale house 30 minutes before its 3 pm close (2:30 pm, our arithmetic). Usable tools and household goods can go to a donation outlet under its own rules. Every center's hours are on our Wilson County center and landfill figures page.

Before we arrive, separate what stays and what we do not take. We do not haul household hazardous waste, which here means batteries, propane tanks, used oil, paint and chemicals, and you get each one's lawful route before the job. Push keepers to one wall or mark them with tape. On the day we load from the garage floor, cover or tarp the load before it leaves your driveway, take each part only to sites permitted to accept it, with building scraps to the County landfill and metal and electronics to recyclers, and sweep the floor where the pile sat. Anything that qualifies under a donation outlet's posted rules gets pointed out before it goes on the truck, so you can choose.

A quote starts with photos: a wide shot from the driveway, the shelves and corners, anything heavy, and a note of what stays. Tell us about paint cans, fuel, batteries and propane so the quote can list their routes. Quotes cost nothing, the figure is agreed before anything moves, and the written copy sets out what is included and which lines, if any, carry Tennessee sales tax. If an old refrigerator or freezer sits in the garage, our appliance removal page explains the refrigerant step it needs.

When the garage is more than a few center trips

A Wilson County household can clear a small garage in daily trips to a convenience center. These are the signs, each one visible from the driveway, that the County's limits or the size of the pile point to a single hired haul instead.

  • The pile is far more than "10 Bags of Household Garbage" plus one item group, and the County allows "One Visit Per Day".
  • Old lumber, flooring or shingles run past the centers' "5 Pieces of Lumber" or "20 Shingles", so the rest goes to the landfill for a fee.
  • The only vehicle on hand is an enclosed trailer, a box truck or a rental moving truck, and the centers turn away all three.
  • The junk would fill Angi's "5 to 10 cubic yards" tier, which is two or more level loads of a 2026 F-150 8-ft. box by our arithmetic.
  • Nobody can reach Lebanon on a weekday, and the landfill wants every load "checked into the scale house 30 minutes prior to closing" at 3 pm.
  • The garage doubles as a shop for a business, and the centers' rules read "NO Commercial Loads".

Each sign is reason enough to send photos. The quote says what goes where: building scraps to the County landfill, metal and electronics to recyclers, and for each hazardous item we leave behind, a lawful route, the same ones set out in our guide to Mt. Juliet disposal routes.

Wilson County's rules for a garage load, word for word

Two Wilson County pages decide most of a garage's route: the Convenience Centers page and the Landfill / Solid Wastes page. The centers' rules open with "Wilson County Residents Only (Must have a Wilson County vehicle tag)", turn away enclosed trailers, box trucks and rental moving trucks, and add "NO Partial Loads", "NO Commercial Loads", "NO Scavenging" and "One Visit Per Day". No definition of a partial load appears on the page. Under "Allowed items:" a visit is "10 Bags of Household Garbage" plus one of seven groups, in the County's words: "2 Pieces of Furniture (couch & chair)", "2 Appliances", "One 8x10 Piece of Carpet or Rug", "5 Pieces of Lumber (flooring included)", "20 Shingles", "2 Boxes of Miscellaneous Items in Open Top Dumpster" or "5 Pieces of Metal/Tin". "Unacceptable Items:" are "Tires/Automotive parts", "Paint", "Hazardous waste", "Yard waste/limbs/grass" and "Fireworks".

The recycling list adds cardboard, metal, batteries and carpet padding. Center staff can redirect a load to the landfill. The landfill page prints three rates, effective November 1, 2022: "Construction/Demo Waste: $18 per cubic yard", "Shingles: $100 per ton" and "Residential Yardwaste(small): $5 per cubic yard". It takes "Cash or local check only", and "Loads that are not tarped will be turned away." In practice, a garage of boxes and metal fits the centers a visit at a time, while lumber, drywall and flooring beyond the allowance belong at the landfill.

Paint, fuel, oil, batteries, propane and tires: each item's route

Six common garage items each need their own route, set by Wilson County or the State. Oil-based paint goes to the County landfill's paint program, effective February 1, 2023, which lists "One 5 gallon container", five one-gallon cans or twenty quarts as its acceptable amounts, from residents only and no businesses. The landfill turns latex paint away; the County's advice is that it "can be dried out in the sun, with paint hardener or cat litter," and TDEC's BOPAE page calls it illegal to throw wet latex paint into Tennessee landfills. Gasoline, solvents, antifreeze, pesticides and pool chemicals go to TDEC's mobile household hazardous waste events, which TDEC runs in spring and fall only and opens to households from any Tennessee county. The 2026 Wilson County date, October 3, 2026, has passed; TDEC's 2026 schedule lists Sumner County's on October 17, 2026.

Used motor oil goes to a used oil collection center; TDEC counts more than 1,100 in Tennessee, each taking up to 5 gallons a day from do-it-yourselfers. TDEC says lead-acid batteries can be recycled at "almost all auto part stores and county convenience centers," that lithium batteries need taped terminals and stay out of the trash, and that alkaline batteries can go in the trash. Propane cylinders "can be recycled locally through your solid waste department," in TDEC's words, but no Wilson County list names propane, and the centers refuse "Hazardous waste". Tires go to the Wilson County Landfill, the site TDEC lists for the county.

How much a garage holds, in pickup loads, yards and pounds

A 2026 Ford F-150 box holds roughly 2 to 3 cubic yards, so a packed garage can take several pickup trips or a good part of one junk truck. The arithmetic starts with NIST's Handbook 44: 27 cubic feet make a cubic yard. Ford's 2026 F-150 sheet prints box volumes of 52.8, 62.3 and 77.4 cubic feet for the 5.5, 6.5 and 8-foot boxes, about 1.96, 2.31 and 2.87 cubic yards filled level, by our arithmetic. Angi and HomeAdvisor size a full junk truck at 13 to 17 cubic yards, and HomeGuide says one full truck equals "around 4 pick-up truckloads." Weight follows volume. Using EPA's density for uncompacted mixed trash, 250 to 300 pounds per cubic yard, one hauler's 2.5 cubic yard pickup load weighs 625 to 750 pounds, well inside the 1,715 to 2,440 pound maximum payloads Ford prints for the 2026 F-150, figures Ford says vary with equipment.

Building scraps run heavier: EPA's figure for bulk construction and demolition debris is 484 pounds per cubic yard. The single pieces are where the strain is. NIOSH puts the one-person lifting limit at 51 pounds under good conditions, and OSHA lists two-person lifts and lift-assist devices for heavy loads. Size the job by counting what fills the floor, in pickup beds, before anyone books a truck or a center trip.

Four ways to empty a garage in Wilson County

A Mt. Juliet garage can empty one of four ways, or a mix of them: daily center trips, a landfill run for building scraps, donations for what still works, or one hired haul once the hazardous items and the keepers are set aside.

Daily trips to a convenience center

Households with a Wilson County vehicle tag get the ten-bag allowance plus one other item group per visit, two boxes of odds and ends or five pieces of metal among them, once a day, at centers open "daily from 7:00AM-4:30PM." The current page prints no fee. This suits a small garage, an open pickup and a week of spare mornings.

A landfill run for building scraps

The landfill on Dump Road bills shingles at $100 a ton and construction and demolition waste at $18 a cubic yard, rates in force since November 1, 2022. It takes only cash or a local check, turns away untarped loads and keeps weekday hours, with check-in 30 minutes before the 3 pm close. This suits leftover lumber, flooring and drywall and a driver with a weekday to spare.

Donate what still works

Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee, whose donation centers include one in Mt. Juliet, accepts household items and tools. Habitat's ReStore in Lebanon takes building materials with no nails, screws, staples or hooks in them, and unused water-based paint less than one year old. Both turn down damaged goods. This suits usable tools, shelving and leftover materials.

One hired haul

Photos get you a quote before anything is lifted; then we load what you have marked to go, tarp it, take each part only to sites permitted to accept it, and sweep the floor. This suits a full garage, a weekday you cannot spare, or a vehicle the centers turn away.

Garage Cleanouts FAQs

How much does a garage cleanout cost?

Angi, updated Aug 31, 2026, puts the national average at $450 and lists $150 to $400 for a one-car garage, $250 to $600 for a two-car garage and $350 to $800 for a three-car garage. HomeGuide, dated July 8, 2025, prints $150 to $1,000 nationally. Neither has a Mt. Juliet or Tennessee figure, and Angi says where you live can add 10% to 20% to its national numbers. Our own price comes in writing, from your photos, before any lifting, and says what it covers.

How long does a garage cleanout take?

Anywhere from a couple of hours to a day or two, by Angi's garage page, updated Aug 31, 2026. HomeGuide, dated July 8, 2025, says a single-car garage can be cleaned in 1 to 4 hours and a three-car garage may take 6 to 8 hours or more. Sorting is the part you control: deciding what stays, setting aside paint, fuel and batteries, and boxing donations before we arrive leaves only the loading.

Can we keep some things and work in stages?

Yes. You decide what stays, and the County's rules suit stages: the convenience centers allow "One Visit Per Day" with the ten-bag allowance and one item group, so small loads can leave over several days. A workable order is hazardous items to their routes, then donations, then center trips, then one haul for the rest. Each load we take is quoted before we lift anything, so a second stage is a second quote.

What happens to paint, gas cans and chemicals from the garage?

We leave them behind and name each one's lawful route before the job. The County landfill runs an oil-based paint program for "Wilson County residents only, 2 times per calendar year." The County's advice for latex paint is to dry it out and then put it in regular trash. Gasoline, solvents and pool chemicals go to the State's mobile household hazardous waste events, which TDEC holds only in spring and fall.

Where do old tires from the garage go?

To the Wilson County Landfill, which TDEC lists as Wilson County's waste tire collection site; the convenience centers refuse "Tires/Automotive parts." TDEC's page states that "whole, unshredded tires may not be landfilled in Tennessee," and it lists tire-derived fuel, crumb rubber and engineered aggregate among their uses. Neither the County's landfill page nor TDEC's prints a per-visit tire limit or a tire tipping fee. TDEC exempts individuals transporting their own waste tires from its hauler registration.
