Mattress Disposal in Mt. Juliet, TN

Mattress disposal in Mt. Juliet starts from a gap: no Wilson County page mentions mattresses, so neither the rules of its convenience centers (the drop-off yards the County staffs for residents) nor the landfill's fee list says whether one is accepted, and the City of Mt. Juliet's pages describe no bulk-item collection. The donation outlets close most other doors. Habitat for Humanity's ReStore takes mattresses only "new in packaging", Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee turns them away, and the Mattress Recycling Council's programs run in four states, none of them Tennessee. Metro Nashville takes mattresses at $12 apiece, but only from Davidson County residents. For most used mattresses that leaves a haul-away, by the store delivering a new bed or by us: we price it from a photo before anyone lifts it, cover the load for the road and sweep the bedroom floor.

Published price

$75 to $150 per mattress in most cases, national (Angi mattress removal page, updated Jul 10, 2026) · full pricing guide

Angi's mattress removal page, updated Jul 10, 2026, puts most jobs at $75 to $150 nationally and prices by size: a twin at $40 to $55, a queen at $60 to $100 and a king at $80 to $125, plus $20 to $40 for a box spring. HomeAdvisor, updated Jun 19, 2026, prints the same $75 to $150 with an average around $100, and Fixr, updated January 31, 2025, prints $40 to $120 and says about 80% of its $75 average is labor. Weight and condition push the price up: Angi says memory foam draws higher dumping fees, and HomeAdvisor adds $40 to $100 for a mattress with bed bugs or fleas. No survey prices mattress removal for Mt. Juliet, Wilson County or Nashville, and the County prints no mattress fee. Every survey's ranges, with their dates, sit side by side on our junk removal cost page.

Official weight tables barely cover mattresses. EPA's April 2016 volume-to-weight table has no mattress row, and Seattle Public Utilities' table counts one mattress at 60 pounds. The makers list more: Saatva gives its 11.5-inch Saatva Classic at 91 pounds in queen and 109 pounds in king, and Tempur-Pedic lists its LuxeAdapt Medium Hybrid, the heaviest on its list, at 141 pounds in queen and 179 pounds in king. Each of those queens is over NIOSH's 51-pound one-person lifting limit. Inside are steel springs, polyurethane, memory or latex foam, quilt panels and fibers, by the Mattress Recycling Council's account, and a box spring, which Bye Bye Mattress defines as the foundation under the mattress, adds a wood frame.

No Wilson County page tells a resident where a mattress goes. The Convenience Centers page names neither mattresses nor box springs, on its allowed list or its refused list, and its "2 Pieces of Furniture (couch & chair)" allowance does not say whether a mattress counts as furniture. The landfill page in Lebanon names no mattress and prints no rate for one. Inside the city, the City's pages describe no bulk collection, and City Code section 16-8 leaves removal of rubbish to the property owner. Across the county line, Metro Nashville takes up to 4 mattresses and box springs a month from Davidson County residents, at $12 each. Paint, tires and the other items with routes of their own are in our disposal guide for Mt. Juliet.

Check the mattress before anything moves. If it has bed bugs, EPA's guidance is to make it unusable, label it and get it collected without delay, so tell us when you send photos. Strip the bedding, take the slats and rails off the frame if you can, and note whether the set comes down a staircase or through a tight hallway, which Angi counts as added labor. Size matters on a stair: Saatva's Classic king weighs 109 or 122 pounds depending on thickness, and OSHA's ergonomics guidance names the two-person lift as a control for heavy loads. We carry the mattress, box spring and frame out of the bedroom and sweep the floor where the bed stood.

To price the job, we need a photo of the mattress, the box spring and the frame, the size, the floor the bedroom is on, and anything you have seen that looks like bed bugs. The quote comes from those photos before anyone lifts the set, costs nothing, fixes the price before the work begins, and lists in writing what the price includes and whether Tennessee sales tax applies to any line. If the set is new and still in its packaging, we tell you before loading that Habitat's ReStore lists it, so you can send it there. A headboard, dresser or nightstand from the same room is covered on our furniture removal page.

When an old mattress has nowhere simple to go

Near Mt. Juliet a mattress has fewer written routes than a couch: the County's pages say nothing about it, and two of the three donation outlets refuse used ones. Each condition below points to a haul-away rather than a drop-off.

  • The mattress is used, and Habitat's ReStore takes mattresses and box springs only when they are "new in packaging".
  • You planned on Goodwill, whose list of items it cannot accept includes mattresses, box springs, sleeper sofas, futon cushions and bed pillows.
  • The mattress has bed bugs, heavy stains, tears or broken springs, conditions Angi says donation centers typically reject.
  • It is a queen or larger, like Saatva's 102-pound 14.5-inch Classic queen, well over NIOSH's 51-pound one-person limit, and the bedroom is upstairs.
  • You live in Mt. Juliet or elsewhere in Wilson County, so Metro Nashville's $12 drop-off for Davidson County residents is closed to you.
  • No new mattress is on order, so there is no delivery crew to take the old one away.

If none of these applies, ask Wilson County's Solid Waste Department before you load a mattress for a convenience center. The County's pages state no rule for one either way, and center staff may tell you, in the County's own words, to "carry your load to the Landfill."

What the written rules say about a mattress, source by source

Wilson County's two solid waste pages are silent on mattresses. The Convenience Centers page lists "Allowed items:" as "10 Bags of Household Garbage" plus one item group, and lists "Unacceptable Items:" as tires and automotive parts, paint, hazardous waste, yard waste and fireworks; mattresses and box springs appear on neither list. The landfill's fee list, effective November 1, 2022, has three lines (construction and demolition waste, shingles and "Residential Yardwaste(small)") and no line for mattresses. The City of Lebanon's Sanitation page, written for Lebanon residents, does not mention mattresses either.

Of these local governments, only Metro Nashville has a written mattress rule, and it applies only in Davidson County: "$12 per Mattress or Box Springs" with a "4 Mattresses or Box Springs per Month Limit", no mattresses in the free allowance of three bags of trash and one bulk item, and a card fee of "2.8% fee with a minimum of $1.95". The donation outlets each wrote their own line. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville lists "Mattresses & Box Springs" with the condition "Must be new in packaging." Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee puts "Mattresses, box springs, sleeper sofas, futon cushions and bed pillows" under "Items We Cannot Accept". The Salvation Army lists "Mattresses" among unbroken furniture it collects and prints no condition beside the word.

Mattress recycling: MRC's four program states do not include Tennessee

The Mattress Recycling Council, a nonprofit formed by the mattress industry, runs recycling programs only "in states that have passed mattress recycling laws", and its home page names four: California, Connecticut, Oregon and Rhode Island. Its programs page dates them to 2015 in Connecticut, 2016 in California and Rhode Island and 2025 in Oregon, and does not name Tennessee. Where the programs run, Bye Bye Mattress says old mattresses and box springs "are dismantled, and the steel, foam, fabric and wood are separated". MRC's "Why Recycle" page follows each part: the steel goes to scrap markets, polyurethane, memory and latex foam and the quilt panels are shredded into carpet padding, a box spring's wood frame becomes mulch, fuel or shipping pallets, cotton has limited use and loose fibers are typically landfilled.

The same page says up to 75 percent of a mattress can be recycled. MRC counts more than 17 million mattresses recycled since 2015, saving 16.8 million cubic yards of landfill space and diverting 650 million pounds of material, about one cubic yard and 38 pounds per mattress by our arithmetic. No Wilson County page mentions mattress recycling, so we make no recycling promise; each load goes where it is lawfully accepted.

Bed bugs in an old mattress: EPA's steps before it leaves

A mattress with bed bugs should leave the house unusable and labeled, by EPA's guidance. EPA's bed bug tips page says that anyone throwing out a mattress or furniture with bed bugs in it should slash or in some way destroy it "so that no one else takes it and gets bed bugs." EPA's do-it-yourself page adds: "Rip covers and remove stuffing from furniture items. Use spray paint to mark furniture with 'Bed Bugs.'" The same page says to have infested items picked up as soon as possible, and to discard furniture responsibly if you cannot safely eliminate the bugs. EPA gives the temperature that kills them, 45 degrees C (113 degrees F), and notes that a cluttered home gives bed bugs more places to hide.

Infestation also changes the price and the outlets. Angi says donation centers typically reject mattresses with fleas or bed bugs, HomeAdvisor (updated Jun 19, 2026) adds a $40 to $100 surcharge nationally for an infested mattress, and Bye Bye Mattress tells owners of an infested mattress to contact the drop-off site for instructions first. Fixr (updated January 31, 2025) puts the supplies to seal and mark a mattress at $10 to $20 nationally. Tell us about bed bugs when you send photos, so the quote reflects it before anything is lifted.

Four ways an old mattress leaves the house

Four routes can take an old mattress away from a home near Mt. Juliet. Which ones are open depends on whether a new mattress is coming, which county you live in and the condition of the old one. Each route runs on someone else's written rule or price list.

Retailer haul-away with a new mattress

If a new mattress is coming, ask the store whether it takes the old one at delivery and what it charges. The surveys print wide national ranges for this: HomeGuide (September 19, 2024) $40 to $150, Angi (updated Jul 10, 2026) $40 to $100. This suits a household replacing a bed.

Donate it, if it qualifies

Habitat's ReStore in Lebanon takes mattresses and box springs only "new in packaging", and Goodwill refuses both. The Salvation Army lists mattresses with no condition printed; enter your ZIP code on its pickup form to see whether it serves your address. This suits an unused set, still wrapped, or one The Salvation Army agrees to collect.

Metro drop-off, Davidson County only

Hermitage, Old Hickory and Donelson residents can take mattresses and box springs to a Metro Nashville convenience center, open Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at $12 each and up to four a month, if their Tennessee driver's license shows they live in Davidson County. This suits a Davidson County household with a truck; Wilson County residents cannot use it.

Have us haul it

We price the set from a photo first, carry the mattress, box spring and frame out, tarp the truck before it leaves and deliver the load only to a facility permitted to take it. This suits Wilson County homes with a used, stained or infested mattress, a bed upstairs, or no truck.

Mattress Disposal FAQs

What is the easiest way to dispose of a mattress?

In Mt. Juliet the easiest way is a haul-away, because no Wilson County page says whether its centers or landfill accept mattresses and the City's pages offer no bulk collection. If you are buying a new mattress, ask the store to take the old one at delivery; HomeGuide (September 19, 2024) puts retailer haul-away at $40 to $150 nationally. Otherwise, send us a photo and we quote before anything is lifted. A mattress still new in its packaging can go to Habitat's ReStore instead.

Does Wilson County dump take mattresses?

Wilson County's landfill page does not say: it does not mention mattresses, and its only printed fees are for construction and demolition debris, shingles and residential yard waste. The Convenience Centers page is silent too, and its allowance of "2 Pieces of Furniture (couch & chair)" does not say whether a mattress counts. Ask the County's Solid Waste Department before loading one. Both sites' rules, word for word, are on our landfill and convenience center data page.

How much does mattress removal cost?

Nationally, $75 to $150 in most cases, by Angi's page updated Jul 10, 2026, and HomeAdvisor's updated Jun 19, 2026, which puts the average around $100. Size moves the price: Angi lists a twin at $40 to $55 and a California king at $100 to $140, plus $20 to $40 for a box spring. HomeGuide (September 19, 2024) prints a wider $20 to $150. None of these surveys prints a figure for Mt. Juliet or elsewhere in Tennessee; Metro's $12 fee applies only to Davidson County residents.

Can an old mattress be recycled or donated?

The Mattress Recycling Council's programs do not reach Tennessee, and two of the three donation outlets here refuse used mattresses. MRC runs programs in California, Connecticut, Oregon and Rhode Island, and no Wilson County page mentions mattresses at all. Habitat's ReStore takes mattresses and box springs only "new in packaging", and Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee will not take them. The Salvation Army lists mattresses among unbroken furniture with no condition printed, and Angi notes that donation centers typically reject stained, torn or infested ones.

Do you take the box spring and bed frame too?

Yes; list the box spring and frame with the mattress when you send photos, and the quote covers the whole set. Nationally, Angi (updated Jul 10, 2026) prices a box spring at another $20 to $40 and a bed frame at $40 to $100. A complete frame with its hardware and all parts may suit Habitat's ReStore, which refuses headboards on their own, and metal is on the recycling list the County posts for all of its convenience centers.
