Hot Tub and Shed Removal in Mt. Juliet, TN
Hot tub removal in Mt. Juliet means moving a spa that the manufacturers' sheets for three models put at 500 to 790 pounds empty out of a fenced backyard and on to a site that takes it, and the same three questions decide a shed, deck, playset or above-ground pool: what it weighs and is made of, how it reaches the truck, and which permit applies. Inside the city, demolishing a structure or removing an electrical system takes a Building and Codes permit, and Land Development Code section 5-103 sets where a shed may stand, while in unincorporated Wilson County the County requires none for demolition. Old decks and playsets may be CCA-treated lumber, which EPA says must not be burned at home. Every weight, rule and price below names its source.
$150 to $800 for hot tub removal, national (Angi, updated Sep 30, 2026) · full pricing guide
National surveys price these jobs item by item, and the spreads are wide. Angi's hot tub page (updated Sep 30, 2026) puts removal at $150 to $800, with above-ground tubs at $250 to $500 and in-ground units at $400 to $1,100; HomeGuide (dated November 2, 2023) gives $200 to $600. For sheds, HomeGuide (September 16, 2024) prints $200 to $2,000, or $1,200 to $3,500 with a concrete slab, and Angi (updated Aug 3, 2026) $250 to $3,000. HomeGuide puts deck removal at $1,000 to $7,000 or more (January 23, 2026) and above-ground pools at $800 to $3,000 (January 9, 2026), against Angi's $300 to $800 (updated Jul 8, 2026). No survey we found prices playset removal, none gives a Mt. Juliet, Wilson County or Tennessee figure, and Angi's shed page lists four states, none of them Tennessee. Our cost page sets these beside other national hauling prices.
Weight and material decide how each item leaves. Hot Spring lists its 3-seat Jetsetter at 500 pounds dry and its 7-seat Grandee at 790, and Jacuzzi lists its J-335 at 764; HomeGuide puts empty tubs at 400 to 1,000 pounds. A shed is lighter per piece but bulkier: Suncast's Vista resin shed, model BMS7705, stands 8 feet 2 inches high with metal-reinforced resin panels and a resin floor, while Heartland's wood sheds, sold in size classes from under 100 to 300 or more square feet of floor, use two-by-four framing, engineered wood siding, OSB roof sheathing and pressure-treated runners. HomeGuide's deck table runs from small decks of 100 to 200 square feet to large ones of 400 or more, and its pool table sorts above-ground pools by diameter.
Once a shed or deck is down, its lumber is demolition debris, and we take it to the Wilson County landfill, whose fee for construction and demolition waste is $18 per cubic yard (effective November 1, 2022), paid in cash or local check, with each load tarped and through the scale-house check-in by 2:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Sundance lists stainless steel among a tub's materials, and the County says its landfill recycles metal. Treated lumber usually needs no special route: EPA says CCA-treated wood can usually go out as ordinary municipal solid waste. Hauling it yourself, a convenience center takes 5 pieces of lumber or 5 pieces of metal per visit from a resident with a County vehicle tag, and no commercial loads. The rest of the County's landfill and center rules are set out on our data page.
The path to the truck decides the method. Measure every gate, step and turn: inside the City, Code section 16-4 requires a hot tub or spa holding water more than 24 inches deep to be fully enclosed by a fence or barrier no lower than 48 inches, its gates self-closing and self-latching. The tub should be drained and its power off before removal day; disconnecting is electrical work, and the City requires a permit to remove an electrical system. NIOSH sets 51 pounds as the most one person should lift, and for heavier loads OSHA points to two-person lifts and lifting devices and NIOSH to carts and dollies; an empty tub weighs many times that. Empty a shed before it comes down. We tarp every load for the road and sweep the patio or drive where the item sat.
To price the job, we need photos of the tub, shed, deck or pool and of the whole path to the street, the narrowest gate width, any steps, and the model name or measurements if you have them. Tell us whether the tub is drained and its power is off, whether a shed sits on a slab, and roughly when a deck or playset was built, since EPA dates the end of residential CCA lumber to December 31, 2003. The quote is free and comes first, before anything is lifted, and work starts once you agree to the price. It spells out in writing what the price covers and marks any line that carries Tennessee sales tax.

When a tub, shed or deck needs a hauler
Backyard structures usually outgrow what a household can lift, or what Wilson County takes in one trip. These conditions, each tied to a rule or a published figure, point to hiring the removal rather than doing it piece by piece.
- The tub weighs 500 pounds or more empty, as the spec sheets for all three models we read show, against NIOSH's 51-pound limit for one person.
- The shed sits on a concrete slab, which HomeGuide (September 16, 2024) prices nationally at $1,200 to $3,500 to demolish and remove, disposal included.
- The deck or playset predates December 31, 2003, when EPA says CCA lumber for homes ended, so its boards must not go on a backyard fire.
- A dismantled shed is far more than the 5 pieces of lumber or 5 pieces of metal a convenience center takes from a household in one visit.
- The structure is failing, and City Code section 16-3 requires accessory structures to be kept structurally sound and in good repair.
What a hot tub weighs, holds and is made of
A hot tub is heavy empty and several times heavier full, which is why it is drained before it moves. Hot Spring's 3-seat Jetsetter measures 7 feet by 5 feet 8 inches by 33 inches, holds 245 gallons and weighs 500 pounds dry; its 7-seat Grandee measures 8 feet 4 inches by 7 feet 7 inches by 38 inches, holds 455 gallons and weighs 790 pounds dry, though a 2020 sheet for the same model listed 940. Jacuzzi's J-335 is 84 by 84 by 36 inches, holds 350 gallons and weighs 764 pounds dry. Hot Spring's filled weights, which count the water and a 175-pound adult in every seat, are 3,070 pounds for the Jetsetter and 5,810 for the Grandee; Jacuzzi gives the J-335 an average filled weight of 3,683.
At the U.S. Geological Survey's 8.329 pounds per gallon, the water alone comes to about 2,041 pounds in the Jetsetter and 3,790 in the Grandee, by our arithmetic. The shell is a single acrylic sheet heated over a mold and backed with resin and fiberglass, Hot Spring explains, though some tubs are rotomolded plastic, and its tubs carry layers of urethane foam over a polymer base pan. Sundance Spas lists acrylic, fiberglass, stainless steel and PVC as the raw materials, with pipes, valves, pumps, heaters, control panels and lights inside a cabinet of synthetic wood, cedar or composite plastic.
Shed, deck and pool permits in Mt. Juliet and Wilson County
Inside the City of Mt. Juliet, adding a shed, deck or pool or demolishing a structure takes a permit and zoning decides where an outbuilding may stand; in unincorporated Wilson County, demolition needs no County permit. Mt. Juliet's Building and Codes Department lists the work that needs a permit first: constructing, altering, moving or demolishing a building or structure, adding a pool, deck, arbor or storage building, and removing or replacing an electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system; it names no size below which a shed is exempt. Its fee schedule, effective 03/23/2026, has no demolition line for a shed, deck or pool; by our reading, the nearest of its three demolition lines is "Other (0 - 100,000 cubic ft) $125".
Swings and other playground equipment are exempt up to 200 square feet of floor area. Land Development Code section 5-103 allows accessory buildings in the rear yard, at least 5 feet from side and rear lines, and in five of its seven residential districts no taller than the lesser of 20 feet or the house; a front or side yard takes a conditional use from the Board of Zoning Appeals. City Code section 8-52 lets the City order an unfit structure removed when repair would cost more than 50 percent of the premises' value. Outside the cities, Wilson County's FAQ sets a flat $100 permit, effective July 1, 2019, for decks, porches, above-ground pools and prebuilt outbuildings under 1,000 square feet, and its demolition page says the State still requires notification before a structure comes down.
Old deck and playset lumber: what EPA says about treated wood
Old deck and playset lumber can usually go out with ordinary trash, EPA says, but it must not be burned at home. Chromated copper arsenate, or CCA, a preservative containing chromium, copper and arsenic, has treated wood since the 1940s; its makers stopped producing CCA-treated wood for homeowner uses in December 2003, and EPA dates the end of virtually all residential uses, decks and children's playsets included, to December 31, 2003. A deck or playset older than that may be CCA lumber. EPA's disposal guidance is short: homeowners can usually dispose of it as municipal solid waste, and "Do not burn CCA or other preservative-treated wood in a residential setting to avoid possible inhalation of toxic chemicals in the smoke and ash." Newer residential lumber is most often treated with ACQ, which EPA calls the most widely used residential preservative, and creosote, the railroad tie and utility pole preservative, has no registered residential use.
Treated wood is light for its bulk: EPA's conversion table puts it at 169 pounds per cubic yard and clean engineered wood at 268. The National Association of Home Builders' life-expectancy study (February 2007) gives a wood deck 20 years. Digging out posts or footings brings Tennessee 811, which says State law requires advance notice for any excavation, hand digging included, at least three working days ahead. Remodel loads and the landfill's terms are covered on our construction debris removal page, and brush grown up around an old shed is a job for yard waste removal.
Take it apart yourself, hire the removal or move it
Three choices fit most tubs, sheds and decks in Mt. Juliet. Angi's hot tub page (updated Sep 30, 2026) puts a junk removal service's haul of a hot tub at $200 to $600 and a move to another spot on your own property at $150 to $200, both national.
Dismantle and haul it yourself
This suits a small resin shed or a stack of deck boards and a truck. The County landfill takes the lumber as construction and demolition waste, cash or local check, tarped and in by 2:30 p.m., and a convenience center takes 5 pieces of lumber a visit from residents. Plan the lifting: NIOSH puts one person's limit at 51 pounds, and OSHA says heavy loads should be lifted by two people.
Have us remove and haul it
This suits a full-size tub, a wood shed or a deck. We quote from photos of the item and the path, load it, take lumber to the County landfill and metal to a recycler, tarp the load and sweep up. HomeGuide (November 2, 2023) says removing a hot tub takes 1 to 2 hours for a small one and 3 to 4 hours for a larger unit.
Move the tub or keep it
This suits a tub that still works and has a place elsewhere on the lot, at Angi's $150 to $200 for relocation. A kept tub stays under the City's barrier rule: water more than 24 inches deep needs a fence or barrier at least 48 inches high, with gates that close and latch by themselves.
Hot Tub and Shed Removal FAQs
Does a hot tub have to be cut apart to get it out?
Only when it cannot pass the path out whole, so the answer comes from measuring both. Jacuzzi's J-335, for one, is 84 by 84 by 36 inches, which means even on edge it needs a way out wider than 36 inches, and Hot Spring's 7-seat Grandee is larger. Weight is the other limit: HomeGuide puts an empty tub at 400 to 1,000 pounds. Cutting one apart goes through an acrylic shell backed with resin and fiberglass, foam insulation and a base pan. Photos of the tub and of every gate and step on the way out are what we quote from.
Can you reach a tub on a raised deck or behind a narrow gate?
A raised deck or a narrow gate changes the method and the price more than the answer: both surveys that price stairs for hot tubs list national extra charges, $100 to $130 in HomeGuide's guide (November 2, 2023) and $100 to $125 per job on Angi's hot tub page (updated Sep 30, 2026). Inside the City, the gate in a spa's required barrier is part of the path, since Code section 16-4 calls for self-closing, self-latching gates. Send photos of the deck stairs, the gate and the yard, and the quote accounts for them.
Who drains the tub and disconnects the power?
You arrange both before removal day, the power through an electrician: inside the City, removing or altering an electrical system covered by the 2017 NEC is permit work under Building and Codes. We found no State, utility or code text on disconnecting a spa itself, so we describe none here. Draining matters for weight, since by our arithmetic from the USGS figure the water in Jacuzzi's 350-gallon J-335 weighs about 2,915 pounds. If a buried line must be dug up, Tennessee 811 asks for at least three working days' notice, which it describes as 72 hours excluding weekends and holidays.
Can you take down the shed or deck at the same time?
Yes, as part of the same job once any permit is in place, and the rules differ on each side of the city line. Inside the City of Mt. Juliet, demolishing a structure needs a Building and Codes permit; the fee schedule has no shed or deck line; by our reading, its "Other" demolition line, $125, is nearest. In unincorporated Wilson County there is no County demolition permit, though the County says the State requires notification first. HomeGuide prices deck removal at $1,000 to $7,000 or more (January 23, 2026) and shed removal at $200 to $2,000 (September 16, 2024), both national ranges.
